McGraw Edison Unistyle 250

McGraw Edison Unistyle 250

This light started it all ! I bought this in either '83 or '84 from United House Wrecking in Stamford, Connecticut, it was my first streetlight! It originally had a badly yellowed GE 2-way #530 plastic refractor when I got it. I just installed this Holophane 4215 I got from eBay a while back (not correct but still better than the plastic thing!). Sometime in my teen years I decided to paint this gray (BAD IDEA !) I might refinish the outside eventually . The inside is horribly corroded but the damn thing still works perfectly ! It is dual wattage (100/175 watt MV)

Nice Tim...I'm still hoping I can find one of these!

Very nice! The unistyles seal very well between the housing and door too, which I really like. They always seem to have water intrusion issues though, and often to the point where the door wears down thin. The dual-watt feature is nice too. 100/175W ballasts were standard issue for the electric company here throughout the 70s and most of the 80s. By the late 80s they were back to using single wattage ballasts for the 100 and 175W mercs.

Please check out my newly-updated website! McCann Lighting Company is where my street light collection is displayed in detail.

I've got a refractor for one, but no luminaire. There was one for sale on eBay 3 years ago...couldn't afford it at the time.

@ GE101R : there is a strip mall near me that HAD 16 of the Unistyle 1000's ! I drove by one day and they were there and the next day POOF ! , Gone without a trace !

@ streetlight98 : Yeah, it actually has a small "step" in the door edge to help seal it . These are very well made. A lot of other cobras have uneven gaps between the door
and body. These are very high quality .

@ CreeRSW207 : Keep your eyes peeled, these DO occasionally pop up on eBay from time to time . This one came from an Architectural Salvage Co. in CT . They can pop up in the
strangest locations !

@ WestinghouseCeramalux : I'll keep a look out for you !

That area in Toledo has a very rich assortment of early mercury vapor luminaires. 1st gen M-400 without the thumb latch & the beautiful Unistyle 400s. How interesting.
