Hi Tim,

I've got one of these too. Mine had the clear plastic cap in place of the P/C socket that was broken (those caps don't last in the sunlight) and replaced it with a twist-lock receptacle. They're a great, well made little cobra-head.

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to save unique and rare HID lighting before it's all scrapped.

Yep, agree 100%! Even if one were to find a clear cap intact, one flick of the finder would most likely produce shrapnel.

Nice! The clear cap was already in use for their Astrodome lights so I guess they just used a part they already had. I agree, a cheap design. They should have used something more uv resistant like glass or something.

This one still appears to be rather solid, it's only slightly yellowed.

This thing is in remarkable condition for being from 1983. I wonder how long ago it was removed from service? Granted, if it came from the mid-west, there are lights from there that look like new and they were installed in the 60s. The dry air seems to keep the lights from aging. The very humid air where I live destroys pretty much anything steel with enough time. Most lights here get white aluminum corrosion spots inside after just a few years and most lights more than 30 years old have rusty galvanized interior parts. The paper labels are usually gone or unreadable inside lights this age installed here lol.

This came from an eBay seller from Minnesota, I'd guess it didn't see much use on a pole because there is a TON of crap on the underside of the top housing leading me to believe this spent some time on its back.

Where in Minnesota was the seller from? I'm curious to know if there are any still installed there. I'd like to do some Streetview exploration in the area.
