"Safety" Signal At My Job

"Safety" Signal At My Job

Click to view full size image

This is used at my job to inform employees of any safety incidents such as accidents or injuries . The original lamps were 116w traffic signal lamps. As they died I replaced them with some left over 13w CFLs I had . Believe it or not the CFLs actually last a good while despite being in an tightly enclosed fixture. This runs 24/7/365 with the green "safe" being on the most. The current lamp has been in use for at least 6 months now! (it was used when I installed it !)

What a cool use for a traffic signal!

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

They just drilled a hole in the back and installed a 3 position switch so they can change it as needed for the situation.

There's about 4-5 of these plant wide !

So how often does the "injury" part have to be lit up?

Only when someone gets hurt (fortunately not that often) . "Incident" means there was some form of accident but no one got hurt .

I like the idea!!
I wonder how the 'safe' light would look with a 6500k CFL?

My very first word was LIGHT!

Yup we got that same kind of thing at my factory job, only without the wording. An incandescent traffic light, to notify of injuries.
Our red light hasn't been turned on for a very long time as well.

Interests:
1. Motorcycles, cars, Women, and Lighting (especially fluorescent)
2. Weightlifting/staying extremely athletic
3. Severe Thunderstorms of all kinds
4. Food and drinks. So gimme them bbq ribs
Lighting has ALWAYS been a passion of mine. I consider everyone on here to be a friend

I like this...nice way to give notice and still be cool at the same time.

A man has two lives to live, and the second one begins when he realizes he only has one.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt.

I remember back when I had my own Traffic Signal I had a Lights-to-go model T3 in it to make it function like it did when it was actually in service on the street. I had to get rid of it when I had to move to a smaller apartment though:(

That same company is now a big company they also make remote (RF) and also bluetooth controlled Safety Signals

Nice concept. I have a few signals in my collection too, I fitted all of mine with boards to make them cycle like on the street, some have the off the shelf eBay boards, some use a homemade Arduino control.

Could put a daylight LED filament in the green section when the CFL burns out.

@ DimBulb & rsheildsjr : I did have a daylight CFL in the "safe" once , It looked weird !
@ sox35 : I'm not sure . These were delivered to us pre-made via corporate .
@ rjluna2 : They actually do a good job at keeping people informed .
@ suzukir122 : I don't remember last time the red was on !
@ WestinghouseCeramalux : they would have been cooler if they would have left the shields on !
@ LampLover : Sucks that you had to get rid of yours !
@ joeseph_125 : For once our geniuses had a good idea !!!

Yeah, I had to get rid of a lot of good stuff (mostly computer parts as I was not big into lighting stuff back then, but going from a 1,200 SQFT apartment to a 330SQFT has it drawbacks) but the rent is cheaper however the Cable bill (Charter Communication AKA Spectrum) is now my highest bill that is $15 short of $200 a month (talk about Ouch!)

I don't even know why I bought it in the first place but hey I was making good money back then so I thought what the hell and bought it

Agreed, I always find signals to look strange with the shields missing.

Yeah I noticed that daylight lamps in a traffic signal look strange, I guess it's since the lenses are designed to be used with incandescent lamps.

That was a cool use for a traffic signal! It’s interesting that the CFLs actually last while inside an enclosed space like that.

So as of Jun 11th, after almost 440 days of the green light at my job, we've finally got the red light. A record-able... bringing us
automatically back to 3 days of no injury, as of today. An employee at my job somehow managed to fracture her finger.

The job is so easy, so I don't know how it's possible for someone to slip up like what she did.
Also, this took place on day shift, not night. I work the night shifts, so I have absolutely no idea
how bad it was. All I know is that it was bad enough to become a record-able, which means it will forever be on record,
and the red light will be on for quite some time. Night shift is far, far better than day shift anyways. We're better
workers than they are, and we get paid more.

Yes, I always liked nights. My favourite job though was the last one I had before I retired, which basically let me choose my own hours. If I wanted to do a day shift I could, if I wanted to do say 6pm - 2am I could, as long as the work got done they didn't really care when I did it, which was great..! Sometimes I had to be there in "normal" hours if the boss wanted a meeting or something, but mostly I was left to myself, which suited me fine.
