New LED's at Lowes :-(

Sorry for the Crappy pic ! (it's a LED anyways!)

These replaced 400w MH Lo-Bays . They are designed as aisle-lighters as they are less glary from this angle (the side) than as if you were looking at them straight as you are walking down the aisle. These produce HORRIBLE shadows and the store seems MUCH dimmer than before.

I'M NOT IMPRESSED !!!!
BTW , I complained about them at the service desk and I was told that MANY others have said the same thing !!!!

If others also hate the LED, it's probably corporate forcing them to replace the MH.

Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

The stores around here still have T8 high bays, probably not for much longer though.

I like my lamps thick, my ballasts heavy, and my fixtures tough.

What crap just to save a few dimes. My Home Depot replaced their 400W MH hi-bays in the garden section with LEDs that literally look like steering wheels.

Surprised others actually complained. I guess it go to show how bad they are!

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

They really SUCK !!! I've seen some bad LEDs before but these take the cake ! The only way to explain how horrible it is would be to compare it to museum lighting.....but WORSE ! There's bright , dark , shadows and glare , all at the same time.

For whatever it's worth , they're 3000k !

The same thing has happened at my local Lowe’s! These new LEDs really suck compared to the old coated MH high bays.

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, especially HIDs and street lights!

They had them here too, they got replaced with something relatively like this one, more LEDs were added to the store too.

Long live Mercury Vapor and Incandescent street lighting!

@ HPS_250 : Did they used these same lousy lights ?

@ CreeRSW207 : I have a feeling that Lowe's will probably end up using these in all their stores .

They say LEDs save a lot of electricity and money, but how much money do they really save after factoring in the cost of the fixtures and the labor to replace them? Both Home Depot and Lowe's where I live, first they changed out the MH high bays with T-8 high bays, then they swapped those for the same lousy LEDs that you've all mentioned. Corporate should make up their minds! Once they do they might actually save some money.

I agree. It's one thing when your changing out 20yr old fixtures with the rising maintenance costs of repairing/replacing bad ballasts, capacitors , wire insulation brittle from heat exposure , ETC. But changing fixtures every time something new comes out is more wasteful and inefficient than the old fixture was to begin with . Besides, the bean counters don't have to pay for them themselves so as long as the numbers look good on paper, they're good !

Interesting, the HD and Lowes where I live still have most of their HIDs and fluorescents in use! The HD near me has some display lights changed to LED, but nothing else.

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

The Home Depot I usually go to used to have T5-HO, but they converted the fixtures to LED.
Brightness-wize they're fine.
I notice a couple fixtures are out though...failed with just a couple years use?

Yeah, almost all the Home Depots here got their T5HO lights replaced with LED. The only one that is still T5 is the one with a drop ceiling that uses T5 louvered troffers. Parking lots and garden centres still seen to be HID though. Usually HPS in the parking and MH in the garden centres.

I remember years ago, Home Depot used to use 400w MH Lithonia highbays inside the store.

I don't think I've seen any LEDs in a Lowe's yet.

Did a project to replace the MH in a facility I worked for. Every calculation I did came up with a 7-8 year repay. What nobody figured into the equation is the loss of BTU's in a non-airconditioned building in the North East. We lost about 150,000 BTU's of heat which made the furnaces run more.

Gas heat is much cheaper than electric heat though plus the ac will run less in the summer.

That’s a good point! So really in the winter the savings from the energy use of the LED lights is negated by the energy use of the heating system but, in the summer the savings will be seen by less energy used by the A/C systems. I’ll keep that in mind the next time someone wants to convert their lighting to LED.

@Wide-lite 1000, well since you're in Columbus which isn't that far from Dayton, looks as if the chances are fairly high
that all the Lowes stores near me will get LEDisappointment as well. Right now the one near me is 6 lamp F32T8. Not as good
as the Metal Halides, but definitely brighter than the LED's in your Lowes.

Building was not air conditioned in the summer so it was a simple tradeoff of the lost heat. Everyone drinks the Kool Aid without really looking at things from all perspectives. The LED's have their place, it takes a ton of load off the electric system, if you get the "right" fixtures you can increase the light quality and also life, but I mean "right" fixture. I remember fighting with the lighting salesmen and them telling me Penn Power would be sending me checks, the meter would run backward. Simple calculation and engineering work, that is all.

I went to 2 Lowes's yesterday while looking for a part.. One still had the normal fluorescents, the 2nd had downgraded to LED, possibly these.
I can't so much say the store was dim, but it was deff much more 'dull looking' in there (not as bad as MH makes a store look, but still not appealing). I'm guessing probably the same fixtures as this pic. They certainly had plenty of them. Areas that used to have F96T8 louvered slimlines had LED strips which were actually kinda cool looking.

The one Lowes I'd went to which downgraded to LED, as mentioned it really wasn't dim or had dim/bright areas down the aisles, or shadows, or anything.
Maybe they spaced the fixtures closer than at other stores, or maybe they're something different than this pic.

One thing I did notice, other than being 'dull' (low CRI?), the light was (really not sure how to describe this) : kinda blotchy (or maybe 'patchy' would be the word?) (I guess 'not smooth/even' could work too?).

The one Lowes I mentioned which downgraded to LED: was there last weekend with my brother to get some lumber (which they didn't have).
Without me even saying anything about the downgrade in lighting...he said something to the effect of "it looks dingy in here"
Which is exactly how to describe the light from these

Don't worry, it will go EOLED this year probably.

We will need to count the LED life hours in negative numbers (-), because some fixtures actually comes EOLED from the factory.
