SCWA means "Super Constant Wattage Autotransformer". It's just a fancy way of saying it's pulse start.

Any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.

Interesting, these seem like factory jobs too as there's a matching cover plate over where the socket is supposed to be.

I'd assume this design is to help protect them from fork lift damage as they are nicely tucked into the rafters !

Makes me wonder, since these are pulse start, are they actually 400w ????

Hmm that makes sense then. I suspect the one in my picture was field modified since it uses octagon boxes instead.

They can be, I have a 400w PSMH lamp and ballast kit. Ballast code on it is M155. The arctube kinda has that pulse start MH shape too.

They also could be 320 or 350 watt . The arc-tube kinda looks like a Powerball .

Westinghouse Lifeguard H38JA-100-DX BT-25!

Those look like 400w. At my local Home Depot, they have the same high bay setup in the garden center, except there are plastic covers over the fixtures instead of a metal grille. The metal is probably better because over time the plastic has yellowed quite a bit.

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, especially HIDs and street lights!

Gotta love vintage HIDs!

Sounds like your store has Low-Bays instead of High-Bays . The problem is 320 , 350 and 400w lamps all look the same .

Yeah one of the stores here had low bays in the garden centre. The other had 8ft T12 slimline industrials in the greenhouse and 400w MH high bays in the soil/paving stones area.

The ballasts also probably last longer when they aren’t exposed to the heat of the lamps.

Either way , these should last almost forever as they are only used from around dusk until around 12 A.M.

Awesome! These are the same type that were used at my Home Depot before they went LED. Does yours also have a couple dayburning 24/7 along a section? They do that at my location to keep the corners lit up.
