A comparison of bases on Lifeguard Mercury Lamps

On the far left is a 1977 250 watt lifeguard. It has a blue glass insulator. When Philips acquired Westinghouse in 1984, they changed the insulator to one made of black vitrite. By 1986, the base was completely changed. The composition of the brass appears different, the font and spacing of the letters for marking the installation date has been changed, and the insulator was changed to a more cone-like shape from the earlier dome shape.
