My New Insulator!!

My New Insulator!!

Click to view full size image

Here it is. The guy walked up to me with the fiberglass insulator. I said "I want the old one please" he said "Oh the glass one" I said yep. In my head I thought, well its porcelain. He brought me to the back of the truck and said "don't let him (meaning one of the lineman) see you running off with this! He said it as a joke of course. After that he said "handle it with care, if you drop it it will hurt like a razor". I said ok. He finally said have a good night and I said thank you, you too! I took this as the power was out, the light was coming from the flashlight.

Nice that you got it! By the way, new insulators are made out of nylon, not fiberglass.

Good quality things are awesome. Bad quality things are not.

This appears to be a Victor Insulators Model 9R, i have one just like yours, but unlike yours, mine has the logo and date printed on the front.

It depends on whos making them, for example, i have a Hendrix HPI-55-4 that is made out of high density polyethylene.

Old lighting is, and will always be, the best lighting.

That's cool that they gave it to you. That's a Victor Insulators pin insulator. I certainly recognize the logo. I have a set of deadend bell strings made by Victor.

My grandmother has a couple of brown ones from the 1960's ? that my grandfather saved when they changed out the poles here in the mid 1980's. She still uses it as a door stop. Not sure if they are Victor or not, however.

Very cool! I'd sure like to see those!

I certainly agree with that! That's how I got most of the powerline equipment in my collection.

This pole was bare so I couldn’t ask for any cutouts, I’m still very satisfied though.

Cool insulator! It’s good that you were able to get something from the pole.

I like all kinds of lighting, except for LED, which I classify as a disease.
- HID lamp and fixture collector
- Vintage incandescent lamp collector
Proudly suffering from Westinghouse Lifeguard sickness since 2019.
Save the sodium lamps! :hps: :lps: :hps:

I was fun to get close to the scene and bring something back from it! Btw is the J meaning August 2005?

Sure is exciting! As a teenager I spent a lot of time following FPL, building up my collection and learning a lot along the way.

GE insulators are difficult to come by as they have been part of Locke Insulators for decades.

Are they gray or brown porcelain? GE merged with Locke years ago.

I have a large amount of powerline equipment but unfortunately I don't have any brown porcelain of anything. It's frustrating as that's the oldest equipment. The oldest dead end bells that I have are from ITE made in 1970.

I’ve seen some brown versions of the 9R, just don’t know how to get it.
