Starter Sockets Opened Up

It turned out that my 4 pin starter sockets were actually held together by screws. I didn’t realize this originally as they have no means to turn them with a screwdriver (I had to grip the heads with some linesman’s pliers and turn the socket to get them out). How do you think they were originally inserted at the factory?
