Just imagine that some one of the depot comes along. With a truck and only put a label on the post and then leaves again.

They have re-used the lantern on a post with the same design and hight. Only it is unpainted. Ones in the 5 year cyclus the posts are repainted here in Vlaardingen and in this part it was last summer so the post will be for 4 years be unpainted.

Here in Vlaardingen they started with painting them about 12 years ago. Before that they are unpainted. First all posts are painted green like the one on the picture later the posts on mainroads become black and in historical areas the modern ones become painted dark green.

Eh, they started with green, then white, then light green, then white again and now beige.

And how they work I can't understand. They don't paint all the posts in one street. They stop halfway and then start in the next street.

The problem is that in this area it is hard to find a spot to park your car. So they park it everywhere. This area is build in the seventies and in that time most families own only one car but today most oned at least two cars.

The local municipality is doing the centennial painting. The contracters they use have some interesting work methods.

1- build scaffold and use a roller

2- use a ladder and a long pole with a roller

3- use the long pole only with a brush

4- paint the bent poles

5- paint half way up and leave

6- paint the top half only

7- paint in 2 colours meeting in the middle

8- paint the pole outside my office, the one with the condemned tag on it

9- paint over the pole numbering

10- paint the bowl

Please do not ask them if they have safety harnesses, they have some in the van.... or tie them to the painting pole.

That sounds like the local Street lighting department where I live, other thing they do is allow the lamp posts to rust so badly they collapse.

All the Best
