I have some sets of lights with covers like those. The do look nice lit, but the points on those can also be pretty dammed sharp

Colored Fluorescent's such as F40T12 Red or  Green or Blue are awesome...

My older ones have coloured holders (the oldest) and thinner cables. The biggest problem with them is that the bulbs get so hot that the holders melt even in twinkle mode.
