My family had a number of strings of these in amber and red that were probably purchased around 1980 but this set dates from a few years earlier, probably during the energy crisis per the blurb on the box about how these were "energy savers" compared to C6 and larger lights. The reflectors were not integral to the lamp and would fall off. Stepping on one would hurt your foot rather than break the reflector.
