Lowes Switches To GE, Ditches Sylvania

Lowes Switches To GE, Ditches Sylvania

Click to view full size image

The other day at work, I went to Lowes for some replacement lamps since we have an account there. All of racks were restocked with mostly Philips-Made GE and the Sylvania's were all on reduced price racks. I won't miss Sylvania though...in the over ten years of using their lamps, they have a terrible track record of going mercury-starved.

The worst were recent batches of F96T12/D50. They look great at first but within months, half of them start to dim and flicker from loss of mercury, so they've become over-priced garbage.

I haven't tried these ones yet, but right off, the lumens are listed higher than Sylvania. Oddly, the 60w is listed higher brightness than the 75w. I will have to compare these lit when I get a chance.

Same thing I did today. Except with the HID lamps.

The 75w are high-CRI, which usually means a reduction of luminous efficiency.

High colour rendering is their excuse for making full wattage lamps a rip off. I noticed this with F40s too, 34w Wattmisers and Alto lamps have higher brightness ratings than some high Cri 40w lamps. No reason why they cannot make a full brightness high Cri full wattage lamp

I was wondering if Lowes switching to GE would help you out, given the mercury issues affecting Sylvania. I predict the 60W lamps will look brighter once warmed up, provided it's not too cold. The energy savers begin to dim out quick if it's the slightest bit chilly.

These are actually Philips made and branded as GE. Time will tell how these hold out.

Any updates ? GE is the last hope it seems. Canadian Sylvania is crap too since LEDVANCE took over the brand

So far, all of the ones I've put in are decent but it's only been a few months. The 60w are actually brighter than the 75w as long as the ambient temperature is warm enough. It would be nice if they could use the same phosphors in the 75w as the 60w.

SP41 Watt-Miser? That alone is interesting.
