Very old 25w Osram twisted candle lamp

Very old 25w Osram twisted candle lamp

Click to view full size image

This lamp was given to me yesterday by my cousin, after me trying to get it since April last year. It was located in candelabra style lamp in a relative's old house were the 15+ sockets had been changed to LED at least 5 years ago except this one, as for some reason when a LED was placed in its socket the whole lamp did not work as it had problems with the contact (or so the electrician had said a few years ago). Tried a different LED this time round and all worked fine so he let me have it. The lamp has little life left in it, the filament sags quite a lot but it still works. I would think this is a Spanish made Osram lamp due to the dark blue glass insulator in the base, typical of older Spanish lamps. I have made a bit of a close - up of the date code on the base in the photo, I'm not sure how this older code works, it is a "ey" followed by a "V". (I tried Lamptech and got a bit confused...) I think the "V" might denote the Madrid plant which would make sense. (Edit: Nov. 1974, thanks a lot James!)

Nice, at least it still works!

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

Take a lit photo (wind up the voltage gradually) then don't light it again

I don't have any lower voltage source here in Spain... Can get a risky lit picture though.

Up to you if you want to try it, but I'd wait until I could get my hands on a Variac, or at least a 110V step-down transformer.

I think it's from November 1974. The Osram date codes used to be ferociously confusing, and further complicated by the fact that individual factories seemed to have their own slight variants. In this case you should use mainly the chart here, in which the y=1974 and V=November. At the time the data for that chart was issued the Madrid-produced lamps had a first letter V to identify the factory, but later that was changed to e as indicated here. It would appear that the change of factory letter happened before the 1953-79 date code system itself was changed, therefore your lamp does not fit either of the charts. I will update my page to reflect your interesting find.

The same happens to me with the osram bulbs that I have. especially the osram nitra produced in spain. I cannot locate the date because there are no these codes. nice light bulb. I still have a functioning house. they last for many years.
