Unknown MV fixtures in the bridge.

Unknown MV fixtures in the bridge.

This local bridge is still litt whit mv fixtures that was installed in late 90's. There are no fixtures in the car lane but only in walkway on both sides of the bridge. Upper deck is used by railway. Before these were installed, the bridge was litt with spanwire style fixtures situated above the car lane. I don't know the fixture model or manufacturer.

This bridge was builded in 1951 and it was never officially named untill 2016 when local city officials named it the Ounaskosken silta (Ounaskoski bridge, named after the river running under it). A name that people had used since it was build. Other commo name being the old bridge, because... it is old.

Ha! I crossed that bridge while walking from the Ounaskoski campsite to the Rovaniemi bus station just a few hours before you took this picture! What a coincidence!
I spotted these but didn't bother to take a picture because our camera was broken and my old dumbphone takes rubbish pictures mostly not worth publishing.
As for the history of the bridge - I saw it in the 1939 town model in Arktikum and its ruins in the 1944 model so it was probably rebuilt according to the original...?

The new bridge over Ounaskoski has also interesting lighting - the "candle" symbol with multiple HPS inside. Looks quite cool at night.

What a coincidence. Did you notice how poor condition the wiring of these was? Fixings of the cables have come loose and someone had fixed the problem using cable ties but now even those are staring to snap off.

Yeas the original bridge was destroyed in the war but I think the stone pillars (rising from the river) survived intack and was used for this new bridge. Original bridge only had one deck which was shared by railway and car lane.

I didn't study it closely - I just noticed these cool MV lanterns.

The Ounaskoski campsite also uses MV lighting (post tops). We had to get up early (5 a.m.) and it was still lit. Places like this are becoming quite rare.

Todays newspaper said the city is going to renovate this bridge. They are going to shut off the traffict at the beginning of the next year and it will take atleadt 8 months. It is also said that the lighting is renewed to LED.

IIRC, some construction works were already taking place at the western side of the bridge in August.
By changing MV lanterns directy to LED, the bridge skips its orange era (never HPS).
Let's hope they won't choose warm white LEDs.

Now's the right time to take a "before" night shot to compare the bridge look with the LED one after.
