Yesss! This is how an LED fixture should be. If the tube goes bad pop in a new one in less than a few minutes. None of that throw away unservicable crap. And i like that it could still become fluorescent and that it can recieve an emergency ballast for power outages

The LED tubes in my barn work well in the winter, I switch over to fluorescent in the summer months. The best tubes I have found are the Philips ones, the Chinese ones suck.
As a side note, the led tubes tend to be brighter and out of 20 bulbs none have failed.
I still do like and prefer fluorescent though.

I don't dislike High quality led lamps, but vintage usually wins.

I recently leased a manufacturing work space that had 1988 fluorescent 3 lamp troffers. All needed relamping, so I went with Green Creative 4000K 2100L ballast bypass LED tubes. They use a glass tube, so no sagging and I have installed about a few hundred over the last year with no issues.

As has been said, if an LED goes out it can be singly replaced. It is no big deal to relamp a legacy troffer fixture with LED retrofit, no one is ever going to consider it collectible. And the light output from a LED retrofit troffer is actually very nice.

Also, I am totally against ballast-compatible LED tubes. Why leave the ballast in? Just go direct-wire/ballast-bypass and call it good. In my troffers a few of the ballasts were dead anyway, so how would ballast-compatible LED tubes have helped? Now I need to replace a fluorescent ballast before putting in an LED? Yeah, no thanks.

I do NOT approve of LED retrofits in collectible fixtures, however.

Also wondering when we are going to see RGBW LED tubes like Philips HUE or Lifx? I actually like my Lifx A19 RGBW bulb. Be cool to have tubes that are color tunable also.
