My Grandfather gave me this bulb. He did it himself. And what is more this buld is still working

What is the purpose of the double screw base?

Nothing like the beautiful cool white light of a coated Mercury Vapor lamp and the soothing hum of it's magnetic ballast.

That's an interesting conversion! I wonder what type of solder he used? I would also be wary of putting it in a lampholder which could be connected the wrong way .. maybe GES/Mogul sockets were hard to come by?
