LED upgrade from T5.

LED upgrade from T5.

About time they come over to fix the lights. I was thinking they’d relamp and replace ballasts yet again. But no. It’s an upgrade to LEDs. Thanks Rory, as the dimmable T5s were atrocious and unreliable. Doesn’t dim very well without weird color shifts or all the way to 0%. The constant up and down dimming from partly cloudy days is hard on the ballasts and bulbs. Fluorescent or HID bulbs doesn’t like being switched on and off constantly nor dimmed.

Every thunderstorm we get there’s always one light or two that goes strobe mode before failing completely. These things do not take well to surges from the lightning but yet the parking lot lights which are LEDs since a few years ago doesn’t get affected by it despite being vulnerable to lightning by either direct hits or surges on the lines. They all still works and are as bright as the day they were installed except for one wallpack which was to water ingress due to installer error. Pinched wire between the halves allowing rain to flow into it. They replaced it a while back and it still works to this day.

You know by now my stance on LED is not that great, however I do agree here with this install. It looks like they kept the fixtures and installed LED tubes which are replaceable. Also the fact the the LED will do better on a dimmer than fluorescent and should not be affected by heavy on/off switching.

Not really. Too much problems with the T5 system. Might as well rip it all out and put up a different system. They’re doing this for less headache rather than energy efficiency. They’re kinda more or less the same efficiency in terms of lumens per watt. Mebbe better efficiency with 0% to 100% dimmability than the T5s.

This is what’s going up. The label on the things says 60w per 8’ fixture. I dunno whether the T5s are HO or standard or even bulb count per 8’ fixture. I’ll have to check the dumpster behind the store to find out.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

WM had problems with their T-5 cooler lights. Short life and constant outages.

Yeah i dont like T5 much. I would have to choose led over T5 . specially with dimming and frequent switching

4 lamps per 8’ fixture totaling 216w. Even at 60w the store looks much much brighter.

Probably don't have Sylvania ballasts, advance makes terrible dimming ballasts, I've been told Walmart had those from day 1 and they had a lot of issues, good lamps and ballasts would have solves the problem here. But unfortunately that doesn't make sense a lot of the time
