1000W Thorn MBF/U Mercury vapour lamp

1000W Thorn MBF/U Mercury vapour lamp

this is another lamp I got from ebay a while back :)

after I ran up my 1000W Sodium lamp on this ballast setup, the characteristics told me that while it under runs a 1000W HPS lamp that it may of beeen a good match for a 1000W mercury vapour lamp

so I dug my 1000W Mercury lamp out and fired up where my suspicions where correct :) (I had also thought that it may have been correct even before I fired up my 1Kw SON lamp, as in the past I used this gear setup with a Variac to fire up this lamp, as I was afraid I might overrun it, however when the lamp was fully ran up I realised I was pretty close to 240V input on the variac)

We've got a couple of those, they're called Freddie and Brian

No prizes for guessing why

Here's Freddie just after his first ever lighting

Almost..! The one in the picture is code 25 (Dec 83) and the other is 31 (Jul 84). The ballast came from eBay, it's a weighty beast..!

By the way this lamp should ideally be running at 7.5A so according to the reading on your clamp meter it's running a bit high.

The other lamp, which we have called Brian, was bought from Photonicinduction.

Cool

indeed I have seen several different current ratings mentioned for 1Kw Mercury lamps from 7.5A to 8.25A however I will concede that Thorn does rate their 1Kw mercury lamps at 7.5A according to the data sheet for their mercury lamps
