Notice the package is devoid of any usual energy savings claims or dollar per year savings vs something else like some of the other Regent boxes we've seen. This is a relatively expensive lamp to use regularly.

Back in the late 80's to mid-90's there wasn't much regard for energy efficient residential lighting, particularly exterior lighting. Linear quartz halogen like this was king, I remember my next door neighbor (back when I was a kid) used multiple 500w and 300w halogen floods around his house mounted under the soffits. My dad used 120w Par38's around our house and 500w linear halogen shoplights in the garage and basement, fluorescents obviously existed, yet nobody I knew really used them growing up.

You are correct...it's funny, the day after I posted that I noticed a nearby local restaurant was dayburning TWO of these high wattage fixtures. They are still out there alive and well. When we were on the quartz halogen kick back in the 80s I remember that we had them in motion sensing fixtures and we had a terrible time with them blowing out quickly and literally exploding in the fixture...we never had one running that long due to the heat and quick failure rate in motion lights.

I, for one, always hated the linear quartz halogens, but they are quickly becoming a collector's item...

My neighbor's house had one of those quartz fixtures on the garage, when they bought it. I remember they said it used a lot of power and burned out, so they replaced it with a MV yardblaster. Which was in use until they expanded the garage and replaced that with recessed lights.

One house on my street still has four quartz fixtures over the tennis court, but it's been years since I saw them on.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

It does make me chuckle how at one time a 175w MV yard blaster was an "Energy saving" fixture, now since replaced with HPS/PSMH and now LED.
