Saw this in JCPenney. Most all of this store has been converted to LED, but these still remain in the entryways. They all have only two lamps installed and most are missing their defusers like this one. Currently t8 but I imagine these were probably t12 originally.

We had a 4xF20T12 troffer in our kitchen when I was a kid in the 1970s. I remember coming home one night to a cold house and the trigger start ballasts didn't want to behave. My Dad opened it, reseated the lamps, and got it to come on fully. I think by the late 70s (in the USA at least) 2x2 foot troffers were 2xU-bend F40 lamps, only in the T8 era did I see fixtures like this with 2,4,or 6 F17T8. Also, an old factory building near us (built in the early 1960s) converted to an art gallery has a 4xF20T12 troffer in a closet. It is probably 277V, since that's what the building is wired for (all of the lighting is 277V, except for maybe a few incandescents fed by the 120/208V step down transformer circuits). Maybe I can get a look at it sometime.
