Unusual Mercury retrofit metal halide lamp

Unusual Mercury retrofit metal halide lamp

Found at a Restore of all places, it was wrapped in a blank cardboard sleeve with a sticker that read "400w H33 10,000h For use with Mercury Ballast only"

Since I dont own an actual H33 MV ballast, I ran it up on an M59 400w MH ballast, the color is best described as an ugly daylight color with a strong green tint. Like the sort of color when a typical 6000K daylight MH lamp is at 75% run-up.

Since there is no manufacturer or brand listed on lamp or sleeve, I figured its worth an upload to this site. If anyone has any more info of this lamp, ide like to hear it. Its always interesting to come across odd stuff like this.

Try to run it on S51 ballast. Daylight rare-earth MH lamps, usually burning greenish when they are underdriven. The European Osram HQI-BT 400W/D, do the same when operated on MV or pulse MH ballast, and gives a daylight color on a HPS ballast.

I"m don't speak English well, and rely on online translating to write in this site.
Please forgive me if my choice of my words looks like offensive, while that isn't my intention.

I only working with the European date format (dd.mm.yyyy).

I lives in Israel, which is a 230-240V, 50hz country.

It looks like an ADL product to me.....but a second peer opinion should be sought.

Oddball looking arc tube for a Cs-Dy-Tl lamp, one would normally expect Tri-Salt with this shape.

Here is a listing for ADL.. http://www.adl-lighting.com/

They are located here..LuoCun, FoShan, GuanDong, China...where else would they be!

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

Fee, Fye, Fow, Fum, A dead man's eye and a parrot's BUM!

A lamp for grow lights or aquariums?

It is for general outdoor floodlighting. Not every daylight MH lamp is for aquariums and plant growing.

ADL push a range of Grow and Reptile MH, but they make "clones" of ALL types of MH.

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

This definitely looks like a Chinese make to me. Interesting find.

Your mission - should you choose to accept it - is to save unique and rare HID lighting before it's all scrapped.

Dor, I ran it up on a 400w HPS ballast, and yes it ran much whiter, less green. However, this lamp is rated for an H33 mercury ballast, an M59 MH ballast is very close to H33 with regards to operating voltage and current. So, the color the lamp produced on the M59 should be what you'd expect on an H33.

Thanks for the links Globe Collector, interesting. ADL's website doesn't show any product offerings besides reptile, horticulture, and aquarium lamps. But I have seen ADL general purpose lamps before, wonder why they dont list everything they produce in their catalog
