In China and Asia are other wattages used then in Europe or north America. For example 40W or 300W. Here is shown a 300W High pressure mercury lamp in BT Shape for asian (Chinese and Japanese Market). The built quality is quite good, similar to European made lamps. The base is crimped and not glued with cement.

Was it manufactured by EYE Electric? The HF300BD code is similar to my EYE 175 watt lamp.

Is this just a mercury lamp or is it Self Ballasted?

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

Yes, then 300w is a rather unusual rating.

I have quite a few Chinese Local Mercury and Self Ballasted Lamps, one power rating I recall is 450w, so, yes, outside their export models, some of the local stuff can be very unusual.

Manufactured articles should be made to be used, not made to be sold!

There was a 300w mercury lamp in the USA. Only, it was an energy saver lamp for use on 400w mercury ballasts. It was an exclusive Westinghouse product.

May all the great lighting technologies have their place in history.

Wonder how it interacted with the ballast to achieve 300w, lower arc drop maybe. I still dont fully comprehend the American Ballast system with the leak transformer and capacitor in series on the secondary side. Wish I could find a vector diagram for one! If the ballast were constant current, then all the 300w lamp would need is a shorter arc tube.

Actually Dave you have a point there, I wonder does this lamp require a special choke somewhere between the 250 and 400w values of 220 and 125mH respectively for 240v, 50Hz...actually, in China they'd be slightly lower because their official voltage is 220.
