LEDVANCE HQL LED

LEDVANCE HQL LED

Click to view full size image

Here you can see a LEDVANCE retrofit for a 80W high pressure mercury lamp. This particular model was in use since 2017 in street lighting before the street lights wer taken down this winter. I really like this model as it is very well made. It has a nice heat sinking wich let air pass around the lamp very well. The LED Driver is potted in the bas to give it better humidity protection. Tha lamp is with 450gramm quite heavy.

I could see this working somewhat acceptably in a post top type fixture (base down also), but with most other fixture styles, this lamp would mess quite badly with the optics of the fixture with known consequences.

Although I appreciate the mindset of retrofitting rather than scrapping.

I would prefer that lanterns were relamped with the lamps they were designed for.

HQL LEDs are successors of HQL MV, I think ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

The fact that it is 4000K is nice, but if it's really 4,000 lumens equivalent to a 125w MV, I just believe seeing it.

The fact that it is 4,000K already makes it much better than 6,500K LEDs. On old MV luminaires should look good retrofit, not to mention that the color is similar to the MVs, but with higher CRI.

When I said she doesn't have a total of 4,000 lumens, I don't mean she's not good, I just don't think she gets it all. Even if it has 2,900 lumens, it probably has a well-distributed beam.
