NASA uses loads of these fixtures, I wonder where they will get extra bulbs.

Near the KSC parking lot, but most of them are near the launch pads.

I wonder why FCO LPS are used? They might need to image blasting rockets at night to gauge trajectories.

When LPS lamps are discontinued these will probably be replaced with LEDs.

I would assume they will either have a massive lamp stockpile *OR*, they may start research on producing them to keep the fixtures running. NASA is a large research organization and would likely have the ability to afford small production runs of SOX lamps provided they get the machinery and workers to do it.

As for control gear, I wouldn't be shocked if they have the influence to be able to get ballast manufacturers like Philips to do small production runs if they aren't making their own.

Side note: Wouldn't it be super cool to get a NASA branded SOX lamp? I know I'd love one!!

What if I told you you could save 100% of your street lighting budget? Don't believe me? Buy an LED street light and run it for a week. the results will leave you in awe. (Aaaaaaand maybe wondering why you swapped that 70w SON)

I don't know why they would want to. it's difficult if not impossible to get a monochromatic LED with an up to 200 lumen per watt efficacy that has an insanely tight spectrum like SOX has. Yes, you can try to imitate the spectrum but what do you do about the efficacy? Orange LEDs aren't very efficient in comparison to the blue ones used in white arrays.

Update: Most of these are left, but in a couple places some of them were replaced with LED.

Seems, that most cover clips are gone and they used the steel cable ties.

That's right. Looks like Spalding Palomars but the original clips are missing.
