This is what happens when you use a bulb that burns a bit too hot in a fixture that's not designed for it.

I wouldn't have thought an LED would have generated enough heat, but I could be wrong. I thought that face looked positively myself..!

@Sox35, maybe not the LED diodes themselves, but the components running them failing, may have caused this. I'm not so sure either.

I figured it out... it's one of those Mandrake plants from Harry Potter! Somehow, it got embedded into this sign.

I think it was an incandescent if i were to guess, a lot of these lights have the bulbs located very close to the plastic, limiting the bulbs to low power incandescents or CFLs/LEDs.

As for the face, my only guess is the guy who installed the bulb that melted the fixture angered it and now the fixture is going to unleash its wrath upon this world.

Old lighting is, and will always be, the best lighting.

There’s no way LEDs nor CFLs can get this hot even at EOL and manage to touch the plastic with the hottest part of the bulb (cathodes for CFLs and heatsink bases for LEDs). It’s either halogen or incandescent with a broken socket making the bulb lean to the side. I’ve seen fixtures with loose sockets making bulbs lean against the sides. Or bottom in the case of my fridge. Melted a spot on the cover. I’ll need to find LEDs for the fridge and a replacement socket if I can’t snap it back on.

The comments on the faces...
It looks like a stingray’s mouth seen from below.

Why I like LEDs on top of other lighting tech?
LEDs = Upgrade 95% of the applications. (That is if you avoid eBay's LEDs).

LED brainwash? No, people uses them cuz they work well for them.

I agree, no way this is anything but incandescent or halogen.

Yeah I'm with FGS on this one... it has to be incandescent or maybe halogen causing this, and the bulb is leaning directly
on the plastic. So either maintenance guy went stupid, or it's a broken/melted socket.
An EOL LED probably wouldn't cause this without starting a legit burning fir--MANDRAKE!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G17jQg_pUJg

Something happened during the last bulb change and the socket has broken and the bulb is melting the light shade. You can also see it has made the plastic so hot it's caused the handicap placard adhesive hooks to give way.

I collect exit signs, preferably vintage ones.

I also have a little bit of a thing for light bulbs, too. Of course, hoarding them due to the incandescent bulb ban.
