Arctubes being underpowered.

Arctubes being underpowered.

All are being ballasted by a 100W Mercury ballast I did this for photography purposes and only for a short time.

The top one is a 400 watt metal halide, as it warmed up it slowly got bluer

Bottom left is a 1500 watt metal halide when it first started it was like lightning in a bottle the arc was blue on one side and peachy in the other it danced within the tube, eventually the entire tube lit up with a sky blue one end lights a warm incandescent color while the other side for whatever reason lights ip daylight... I assume there is a salt consent ration there or something.

The bottom right is a 1000 watt mercury Vapor lamp, the nearest electrode seems to sputter a bit, it's hard to tell what exactly is going on in the tube as it's a pretty well used lamp..

I like the looks of the lit arc tubes. Too bad it's bad for the lamps to permanently run them like this. I'd have a strand of under driven halides.

It is nice to see the properties of warming up these arc tube on Metal Halides that does glow in these colours even it is underdriven

Seems that these salts condense to these electrodes during cool down phase

Pretty, please no more Chinese failure.

400 watt metal halide arc tubes remind me of pizza rolls.

LOL same. I always wondered if I was the only one who thought this.

Me neither. Metal halides are probably the most interesting ones I've seen so far.
