Bright Star 451-CT Inspection Flashlight

Bright Star 451-CT Inspection Flashlight

Here is a neat flashlight I just bought on eBay. It is a Bright Star 451-CT inspection flashlight. It is interesting for two reasons. First, it has a fold-out inspection light that uses a #243 penlight lamp. The inspection light can be folded out at any angle. There's also a flexible extension that can be pulled out about three inches and bent slightly if needed. When you fold out the inspection light, it turns off the main flashlight lamp and turns on the penlight lamp.

Second, this light has a 1/4" phono socket in the tailcap where test probes can be inserted. This lets you use the light as a continuity tester. Turn the flashlight switch on and the lamp lights when you have continuity.

I've seen a few Bright Star 451s on eBay and I've seen a few other model Bright Stars with continuity testers, but this is the only 451-CT (the CT is for continuity tester) I've ever seen!

It came cheap because it didn't work. The main lamp didn't work because the contact that energizes the lamp when you close the inspection light just needed to be bent a little. The inspection light didn't work because there is a little wire inside the metal tube that was broken. That was a little more difficult to repair but it came out just fine.

Wow, that's a nice flashlight.

Be a good one for testing airbag wiring in a car

I have a continuity tester Bright Star flashlight that my family has had for ages, but do not know the model number offhand.

Old school FTW!

Interesting flashlight setup especially with the foldout inspection light!

Long live the great old 20th century quality in electrical & lighting products!
