Around a garage slated to be demolished to make room for a commercial building w/condos. Bottom LEDs are what I installed for them. The 13watt wallpack I made from spare parts.

I've been gawking at these LPS fixtures for over 30 years, regularly lit at nights. Only 2 years ago did I realize they were Philips Goldfingers. 2 of them recently went off and the one in the rear was damaged by falling ice from the roof.

A big sign went up (seen lower left) in the summer of 2019, that showed a new building forthcoming. So I brought my car in for break repairs, started talking to the owner who had recently bought the garage with the lighting as found, not knowing how to relamp. I told him how old the fixtures were and suggested to install some used LEDs I had. The Goldfingers then came down, put them in my car having little hope that the ballasts in the darkened fixtures actually worked, but they did. Great! Just need to 3D print the covers, paint the shield white and the aluminum housing in gold.

Dumb question, what was the purpose of installing new fixtures if the place is going to be demolished anyway ?

All the LED I installed were used. The garage still has a large clientelle, so the owner wanted lighting as security for the 24 months before demolition. He was eager to get LED installed as a swap (no charge, no cost, free).

I gotcha ! I didn't think about the fact that it's still in use . Maybe you can get the "new" stuff back before demo for another swap !

Good job on saving them!

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

Nice save George! The Goldfinger I have has a separate slipfitter mounting bracket, yours is a different version with a built-in mounting bracket!

That's cool you plan to 3D print the covers! Will it last as long as the original? I will keep that in mind if I need a spare cover!

The brighter the better.
