Wiring and mounting the Advance post-top 35w HPS ballast

Wiring and mounting the Advance post-top 35w HPS ballast

The wiring is very straightforward. With no photocontrol, the red is wired to the black. The top lantern was a $19.95 store bought top. Spray painted to match the color of the post, the only other thing I did was replace the socket with a 4kvolt pulse rated one. The head had a max 100watt incandescent lamp allowance. 35w HPS seems not too hot for it.

Nice project, I have a 100W MV post line ballast I'll eventually have to make something happen, it's nice to see how it all fits together

The hardest part was cutting with a jig-saw (metal-blade) that round face plate which was a standard cover for an electrical box. If you can make that, then everything else falls into place.

With my NPF 35watt post-top ballast at hand, I looked for an 8 foot post. I grabbed one that was discounted from a home-hardware or home-depot type store wthat has a healthly lighting section. These front-path posts are found where the ornamental/expensive fixtures are located. Turns out they have standard diameters, 3", & my ballast fit nicely. If your ballast isn't round, make sure it'll fit in these frontpath or entryway 3" posts!
