American Electric mercury bucket

American Electric mercury bucket

Click to view full size image

Here it is... The 175 watt American Electric bucket light. I got this off ebay and one of the screws holding the ballast bracket had a broken head. I was able to dremel and extract the remaining stud from the housing. As far as I know, this is from 1967 as stamped on the ballast. The bucket itself has no cracks. The only other bucket light I have is a cooper 100 watt HPS from circa 1999.

Nice find, I saw this on eBay! You don't see ones this nice there very often!

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

I actually thought this was one of your pictures from the thumbnail because it was taken on a washing machine and it looks like something you would have.

Thanks everyone. The refractor is plastic. The Ripley does give it a nice vintage look. at the thumbnail comment. I might eventually put this to use, just not yet. Im going to enjoy this indoors to preserve it for a few more years given its age of 53 years old.

It’s nice to have a 53 year old fixture. I feel the same about any Westinghouse Lifeguard lamps, just keep them in my collection to preserve them.

We'd love a fixture like this, but we never had anything like them here and the cost of getting one shipped, even if I could find one at a reasonable price, would probably be way out of our budget

I agree. Not sure where you are but sometimes you spend the same, if not more for the shipping cost than the purchase itself. There are few cheap ones on ebay, maybe you ought to check them out. actually, there's a couple more I want but the seller wants a ridiculous amount of money for them so they're going to keep them.

<--- Clue is in the sidebar

Not only do we get shipping costs, which are obviously more than within the US, but sometimes we get hit with customs/import charges as well, which can push the cost way up

That's stupid. But then I don't hold with these mobile interweb things, I don't feel the need to be connected and for Google and the like to know where I am 24/7. The closest I get to mobile computing is a laptop, and that spends most of its life on a docking station

But even so, if someone wants to know my location, all they have to do is bring up my profile and it's on there. I know not everyone puts their location up, but we do.

Nice light! Looks like it's in pretty good condition too for its age.

Yeah one of my main gripes with the mobile site is that it hides the sidebar, user signatures and the EXIF data from view with no option to show it. I browse the site on mobile but prefer to use the desktop version to comment and post pictures.
