There’s something unique about the mercury arc, it’s a shame they could never improve on its efficiency, I often wonder if you took a 1 KW halide tube, (in size), and only fill it with mercury, how much more efficient the mercury lamp would have been to its standard size counterpart?

For a bit of perspective, An EYE 50w E-17 lamp total length is the same as the distance BETWEEN the electrodes in this arc tube !
