It is indeed a nice design. Is France the only country with this lantern?

They are also spotted in Italy, Switzerland and Spain(?). And in former French colonies.

France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain (confirmed), Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and African french speaking countries (Senegal, Mauritania, Cameroon, etc...)

In Turkey (via PHILIPS)

Probably in Portugal, Greece, Andorra, Luxembourg, Iceland, Mauritius, Egypt, IsraŽl, Lebannon, Syria... in which you can find easily MAZDA lanterns (Solair, Comete, Estoril, etc...)

The lineman gave me one when I was living in France as they were switching to something more modern. They're cool lanterns, to access to the ballast, you slide the cover up. Nice to see they're still in use.

They appeared in France before 1965 and were originally made by the company PROJELUX. In 1967, MAZDA bought PROJELUX and in 1982, MAZDA became an entire part of PHILIPS.

PHILIPS has maintened the MAZDA trademark during 80's and 90's.

MAZDA sold EPA from 60's to end 1988 for EPA 125 and EPA 250, to 1993 for EPA 400.
