Ok in this case it was my intention. Never run a discharge lamp without ballast before.
It started for a second and then the fuse of my house came. I broke the glass to have a good view to the arc tube ;-) The arc tube was before black but I think the white shadows at the electrodes are new.
I wanted to measure it but that happened of course too fast.

Surprised it would light on mains, normally needs ignitor pulse of a few kV to strike.
Or did you short the ballast while running?

It looks in pretty good shape after that... Almost as if it'll still light again on the ballast
