Used a very black Narva NF 80W from 1987 in its original package. The lamp was overdriven with a 400W HPS ballast. There was no fire after 5 minutes but much smoke. Pic is taken after 1.50 minutes.

That’s really unusual, I once tried to remove a 400 watt halide lamp with a cloth at work, while it was running!, it set the cloth on fire!!!

The lamp sleeve is glowing with heat!

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, except for LED, which I classify as a disease.

If you had given it an ignition source to ignite the smoke it would have no doubt burned up very quickly.

Any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.

@AngryHorse: WOW ! Strange - I know here in Germany a collector who removes any running lamp without any savety clothes just with the naked hand.
@Lumex120: Yep I guess so too but in this case I hoped it would burn without help. Anyway the amount of smoke was amazing enough
