There's a video on YT of where some guy ran an 80w mercury lamp on some custom variable ballast and it didn't explode until it got past 6,000 watts.

Any machine is a smoke machine if you operate it wrong enough.

Yes , I also don't thought that such a tiny MV lamp survive that much Ampere! I did two more tests with even bigger ballast. Pics will follow.
