Home Depot - Security Lights

Home Depot - Security Lights

Click to view full size image

Here's a shot of how the security lighting section looks at my local Home Depot now. LED is now the predominant type of light source with a only a few halogen and HID fixtures left. A few years ago and this would be mostly halogen, CFL and HID. Anyway the only HID fixtures left are a 50w PSMH bucket and a 70w HPS patio light. The larger 100w and 150w HPS yardlights have been replaced with the LED version.

This looks a lot different than Home Depot here. We have HPS and MH yard blasters with metal head, we don't have those plastic head buckets. Also a few HPS wall packs and floods, and CFL yard blasters which have a bowl shaped refractor. Mostly the Lithonia brand. Lowes doesn't sell the HPS buckets any more though, only MH and CFL with the CFL ones currently on clearance.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Those 50w PSMH yardblasters are weird. Do they take mogul base lamps?

I actually have one of those 50w PSMH yardlights and the 100w MV version of the 70w HPS patio light. They both have painted cast aluminium heads and took medium based lamps. The 50w PSMH one has a open rated only socket and comes with a open rated 50w lamps.

Lowe's got rid of the HPS bucket lights, so now it's just 100w PSMH, 65w CFL, and LED.

The Home Cheapo I check on a regular basis has started the markdown/clearance of their 70W HPS Lithonia tallpacks. Am going to snag a few if they ever get stupid cheap, as I got 3 70W HPS buckets for $12 each that way a few years ago. A friend bought one off me at my cost and uses it on his shed. The OEM PolarLites branded lamp did not fare well and has severe blackening of the discharge tube.

Old school FTW!

Yep, and the CFL ones are now on clearance for $25. I would have liked to have gotten an HPS one, when they clearanced them, but they're too big to store and they didn't really go any lower than about $40 before they were gone.

I'm watching for HD to start clearancing anything but I'm really only interested in the CFL cylinder lights.

Over here I find a lot of HD clearance stock that dosen't get sold eventually ends up at the local Restore. Sometimes damaged stock shows up at Restore too. I got a bunch of the last full size Lithonia strips from when HD cleared them out in favour of the current slim ones.

I haven't seen that here> But I have noticed HD doesn't seem to clearance stuff as often as Lowes does. I'm always finding new stuff in general in the Clearance sections at Lowes and they mark it very low. With HD it doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

My HD has been pretty meh in terms of clearance stuff. I see a lot of items in the clearance section but they're usually not marked down by much. The good stuff seems to disappear quickly or just shows up at Restore instead. I've gotten good deals on clearance items at Lowe's before though.

I'm not sure if anyone else noticed but the tag 50w PSMH yardlight says LED on it.

I didn't notice that, but I had seen that on another HD picture on here with that fixture being labeled the same way.

I looked at Lowes today and saw they started selling 70W HPS yardblasters again, but they're Lithonia brand and not Utilitech, also the MH ones are Lithonia brand too. They seem to have cleranced out the Utilitech CFL yardblasters as they're gone from last time.

My home depot cleared out everything that isn't LED a few days ago.

I should probably go check mine. I suspect that some stores are clearing out the 50w MH bucket light in the pic. I see the lamp that came with them at Restore sometimes.

Lowe's still lists a 100w HPS bucket light on their website but don't have any other HID fixtures listed. Some of the smaller chain stores here have a wider selection. You can even buy brand new 175w mercury vapour bucket lights here. Ballasts on the other hand got impossible to find.
