I have always wondered if the piece connected to the streetlight arm serves any purpose or if it is just a decoration.

Anyone know who makes the arm ? Seems anytime I see that shape of arm around Ohio there is usually a M-1000 on it.

There were even some of these arms in California! The ones I see are mounted to concrete poles and are made by Marbelite. Marbelite poles have really cool identification tags! Here is what they look like.

Power provider: Southern California Edison (SCE)

-Date decoder of some US lamps 1960-present.
-Switch and receptacle collector.
-I'll save what I can! Smiley

Massachusetts likes to use these external vibration dampers on their poles. I've seen them on the large green overhead sign poles too. They're not really necessary except on a bridge, perhaps. Some companies like HAPCO offer internal vibration dampers.

Please check out my newly-updated website! McCann Lighting Company is where my street light collection is displayed in detail.

There is a huge double decker bridge here, which is probably why these lights have these. They were just recently converted to LED.
