1000 W HPS / MH magnetic ballast (HDV002224)

This ballast has spent a year or so unused outside in the rain and cold. I am not sure if I can get it working but I’ll give it a go. It has had the rust sanded and down and dried out in an oven. It has also been given a lick of paint primer. It is showing a leakage resistance to ground of 20 Mohms which is not good. I’ll see what it reads in a week or so. Failing that I can grind the welds off and remove the coil from the core for a closer inspection. If I have to do that it likely to become a loud humming ballast, so hopefully not.

You got yourself a good door stop.

The more you hate the LED movement, the stronger it becomes.

Yeah, could end up just a big door stop. Although testing insulation to 1kV so far looks good.

Nice save. 20Mohm is an acceptable level of leakage, especially if that was at 500 or 1000v? It's probably still got moisture trapped in it which will dry out over time.

Yeah, think you're right. Dried it out more, then tested it to 3.5kv and only had 20uA leakage. Think I can give it a fresh coat of paint now.
