Mercury Vapor Bulbs are now being sold at my Home Depot

Last time I was here, they didn’t have ANY MV lamps available here! What’s even more shocking is that I live in Arizona and Mercury Vapor lights are banned apparently! So why are these here?!?!

From what I have heard, the law only prohibits mercury lighting from outdoor use.

We still have this full selection of Philips HID’s in South Carolina stores. I’m waiting for them to go on clearance. We don’t have any state laws prohibiting these interesting lamps and there’s still a bunch of them around town, casting their eerie greenish glow at night

Philips DuraMax and GE Miser forever!  Classic incandescents are the best incandescents!

I think Home Depot here only still stocks 70w medium base HPS in terms of HID lamps. Same thing with Lowe's. Lowe's used to have a fairly complete selection of Sylvania HID lamps but they cleared most of them out in 2012.

Usually I buy HID lamps on eBay, due to lower prices and sometimes higher quality. Although I did buy some Sylvania MVs when Lowes clearanced them to switch to the GE brand about a year or so ago.

I don't expect to see these Philips HIDs to go on clearance anytime soon, only unless there is a ban on selling them.

Collect vintage incandescent and fluorescent fixtures. Also like HID lighting and streetlights.

Looks as if the Home Depot near where I use to live, has pretty much all the lighting I want. Bulbs only though, not fixtures.
The lamps shown here are included.
I saw plenty of PL lamps from Philips labeled "For magnetic ballasts" at the back of each package. Preheat lamps!

Interests
1. Motorcycles, Women, and Lighting (especially fluorescent)
2. Weighting/staying extremely athletic
3. Severe Thunderstorms of all kinds
4. Food and drinks. So gimme them bbq ribs
Yep
Lighting has been a passion of mine since I was born. I consider everyone on LG to be a friend

Why though?

Don't be fooLED, T8 IS the worst thing to do to a magnetic T12 fixture.

Light pollution.

Wouldn't LED cause the same, if not more light pollution?

Random back stock? Always sold out when you happened to visit that particular store?

I'm not so surprised as you can get here all normal incandescent wattages in some shops (40W - 60W - 100W). Some 10 years since their ban. Sometimes with a small label like "intended for heating".

Strange that those 175W MV lamps above are the same price for Clear and Deluxe White versions.

Not a misoLEDist...

Hmmm, more expensive than they were when I stockpiled them in the 1990s, and that was before they farmed off production to China

I think in most places that "banned" certain light sources such as MV, the ban only means no new installs of new MV equipment. You can still maintain MV as you see fit.

Vintage HID Collector

The only mercury vapor lamps worth buying in the 90's were made by Sylvania. Philips were a far cry from what Westinghouse had made, and GE's lamps were OK. What's been made since then is mostly junk...unless they were made by EYE-Iwasaki.

The truth of a matter, is not determined by how many people believe it.

I went to Home Depot last weekend and bought the last of the clear MV lamps and an MH lamp.

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, especially HIDs and street lights!

With a little patience, good vintage USA NOS lamps are still available on eBay.

I just bought some Sylvania (looks like Westinghouse) 250w clear MV on eBay for $14/shipped. That's $4.97 cheaper than that Philips chikety-China bulb right there on the shelf!
