Abandoned floodlights

Abandoned floodlights

This giant block of land was once home to my hometown's hockey playing fields about twenty years ago. When the club relocated to a new premises and new land the old fields were just left abandoned and allowed to go derelict (even old hockey protective netting is still hanging up waiting for another game!). Some time later a funeral home purchased the old fields which altogether housed four of the timber poles on the ex-hockey playing field. For years the playing fields stood abandoned while the funeral home was built on the old car park land. Within the last year the home has expanded onto the old playing fields which claimed two of the timber poles. A fence (as seen in the main pic) was constructed at the rear of the new additional buildings cutting the old playing field in half. The remaining two poles just stand there, abandoned, derelict, staring into buildings and with most likely their cabling disconnected. The four poles were operating about five years ago when the funeral home put on a huge Christmas light display wonderland for the public, however I have never seen them used since.

The top middle lantern looks to be a Philips HNF902, most likely 2000 watt MH, just like the one I bought from a second hand store a few months ago - see here. The other three cylindrical lanterns look similar, although are not the same, as these ones at a nearby substation, see here. I would say that these ones would be around the 1000 watt MH area?

The control boxes on both poles have been screwed closed, but gee I would love to see what's behind those metal doors!

That control box look's like it's about to fall off, could you get it or have a look inside it?

Hey Jack....that box sure is just about ready to fall off! The top half seems to have given way with only the bottom remaining bolted onto the pole. The actual lid of the box has two screws in it holding it closed....but I may just undo those one day and have a peek inside

On the eighth day God created the 1KW MH Sylvania Batwing
