GEC Solarflood....very 'underlamped'.....

GEC Solarflood....very 'underlamped'.....

This GEC Solar Flood used to shine its 400watt HPS light over a pedestrian crossing at the local University until one night it failed. Having already reported about 700 faulty street lights in my home town this year I naturally reported this one to the power co as well. It was repaired very quickly with the only issue being it was relamped with a 250watt MV lamp! It looked quite nice and bright for the first fortnight, then after that it just kept getting greener and greener until about three months after relamping it failed, and has never come back to life since..hmmm I wonder why?!? I have re-reported the street light and am eagerly awaiting to see how it will be relamped this time round!

Here are some more detailed photos of and information about the GEC Solarflood - a very popular lantern in Australia which unfortunately is now these days playing second fiddle (what's left of them) to the Philips Puma.

Tmba seems to have the worst cases of mis-lamping I've ever heard of.

It's madness here mate, tonight I spotted a twin armed pole with two 250watt Roadsters on board....both with 400watt lamps in them...they were glowing a very dull orange lol

On the eighth day God created the 1KW MH Sylvania Batwing

The only installation errors I've noticed here in Brisbane relate more to the power supply to fittings e.g. not bypassing the old remote MV gear when replacing the GEC Z8430's on the Albion Road Bridge a few years ago, resulting in the HPS Roadsters looking like they were running 50w lamps.
