Philips 93162E and Osram Cadmium Lamps

Philips 93162E and Osram Cadmium Lamps

Click to view full size image

This is a juxterposition of Philips' and Osram's Cadmium Spectral lamps.

The Philips lamp is a 900mA model with a 9mm dia arc tube bore and 33mm electrode spacing. It has bulkheads in front of the electrodes with apertures in them making electrode chambers. These chambers are also platinum plated to reflect heat back to the electrodes.

The older Osram model is rated at 1600mA arc current, also has a 9mm arc tube bore but the electrode tip spacing is less at 23mm and there are no baffle bulkheads or platinum platings. It has had considerably more use and there is a fair bit of sputter blackening from the electrodes but it still functions normally.

The Osram lamp has also lost its P28s cap to an over zelous laboratory technician and it is quite common to see rare lamps "butchered" by lab techs who don't know how (or are just too lazy) to procure the correct sockets or simply solder wires directly to the cap's lutes.

Nice lamps you got there.

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

Collector of lights and anything else that interests me as long as I have space for that particular thing!
