How long have you had it..? 4B could be Feb 75 or 95, I'm guessing the former but could be wrong. Made at Hamilton near Glasgow.

I think it would be Feb 1994, I'm not sure if they has that style of domed end of the bulb back in 1974.

Yes 4B = is February 1994, as it has the Red Cap and Metal Inner Supports, you can rule out 1974 as they would have had a Brown Cap and Round End, and you can rule out 2014, as by then they replaced the metal supports with Mica Disc Supports.

Giving this bulb a good 1hr run. Starts nice with a pure red neon colour. No argon mix

Try for a bit longer, I always run a new lamp or one that hasn't been used for ages a run of at least 5 hours.

Yeah it is for older heavily used lamps like this one. Its another way they can fail as when it happens it makes the lamps starting voltage rise so it can be harder to strike from leak ballasts.

The 55w are not too bad for this issue but the 90w/135w/180w lamps are terrible for it, most do it and EOL that way

Thanks, so far this one comes on just fine. I didnt realize this one was heavily used, I'm hoping it has a few years worth more of life on it for nightly use
