Working SOX lamp with broken Mica disc

Working SOX lamp with broken Mica disc

Click to view full size image

When I first saw this lamp I thought there was no way it was going to work as the Mica support disc had snapped into two pieces, suggesting it had taken a forceful hit. To my surprise it turned on fine.

The bulb is now quite delicate as the inner arc tube moves around and is very close to resting on the outer envelope.

As a collection lamp it should be ok if it doesn't get shaken about too much. If you're planning to use it in a fixture I'd be careful though as wind loadings can shake things about a lot

It'll be all right in the end, and if it isn't all right, it isn't the end Smiley

Cool, I'll just be keeping this lamp as a showpiece then.
