Heck yeah, they are! Way better than the modern stuff. I like these thick fixtures, heavy/loud ballasts, etc. way more.

A place i used to work had the GE bonus line ballast and Advance HO ballast that ran 24/7 for 30+ years. A set of lamps would go about 5 years before running out of mercury. Some of them would have electrode failure but most of them would just quit making light. An arc would be present but no light being made. Modern HO lamps wouldn't even come close to that.

Keep government out of the lighting industry.
