AEI is Australian Electrical Industries. Good luck finding one of these lol.

Good quality things are awesome. Cheaply made things are not.

These were made by AEI (Associated Electrical Industries) and sold in the UK, where they turn up from time to time. They use a resistive ballast (that gets very hot) with the insulator wire being made out of asbestos!

I would absolutely love to have such light fixture.. Maybe I could make my own hmmm.. could be a nice weekend project

New lighting technologies is a pity fest everywhere you look. From LEDs that last only for two months, to a never-ending global starvation of t8 fluorescent tubes.
We shall reinforce ourselves with good old full mercury t12s and HIDs made to surpass one's life, and give them all the middle finger ;

I think I'm right in saying there was a version of this that had an incandescent lamp at one end that acted as the ballast..?

Ah yes, that was the "Kitchen Light" made by Atlas (a competitor at the time), looked a bit less streamline but still quite futuristic and had a ballast lamp with 4 pins at one end I think? (I believe you have such a lamp in your collection!)

The ballast lamps I have are 3-pin BC, still trying to get some tubes to work with it. I found a guy on French eBay who has some, but still trying to sort out shipping so it may be a while before I get any. Lampholders might be a problem as well
