The optics on these lanterns are excellent. There are three settings you can move the lamp to for normal, semi-cutoff and full cuttoff.

Bit of info you may find interesting, The SRS201/MA lantern for street lighting units was designed by Tony Butowsky and B. Rogers, and was winner of a Design Council Award in 1975.
