These lights stood in a parking-lot of a former Safeway (now Value-Village) on Victoria Drive in Vancouver. Alas these were removed and replaced with PIG-UGLY L.E.D. lights in December, 2018.

I wonder if it was a legal requirement for the new owner?

Why would you think that?

Streetlights are most often overlooked by society as we go about in life. I have had an interest and fascination for them since I was very little. I love drawing detailed city-scapes and the streetlights are my signature. They always play an important role in my drawings. Like Bob Ross' clouds.

I know. I was saddened.

Anyone notice the wallpack on the pole?

Yeah, there on all three poles, plus the center pole looks to have some kind of flood lights instead of the flourescents, the new owners probably replaced them so all were matching. The contractor more than likely pushed LED !

I wonder if the wallpack were supplementary lighting or already replaced the fluorescent lights when this picture was taken. Poles also give a strong Gardiner Expressway vibe, the ground level portion of the Gardiner between the Humber River and Dufferin had similar poles mounted in the median.

I know some parts of Canada have very strict energy efficiency laws so that's why I was wondering about that.

Fluorescent lights are cheaper than MV and HPS to run. They did still work up to the date that they were removed. If you scroll through the years on Google Maps, on various occasions they are illuminated. They were very nice. The new ones are absolutely atrocious.
