JVC PC-V55 boombox with auto reverse cassette deck

JVC PC-V55 boombox with auto reverse cassette deck

This was my dad's boombox, but he let me have it because he did not use it anymore. I am really glad to have it! I am still waiting on a new belt for the cassette mechanism because the original one slips. Pictured leaning on it is the case of my favorite cassette tape.

Another Rush fan awesome! I would buy any belts you need now and may need for the future as I heard (don't know it if it is true or not but I hope not) that all belts are discontinued and no longer available (NLA)
I got a JVC TD-W709 at a thrift store for $1.50 it was marked at $3 but the lady gave it to me 1/2 off because She said no one want these old things anymore. I was happy to get it for that price (less then the iced coffee I bought a few minutes before I walked in that store. My deck works 100% and when I removed the cover to inspect the belts and what not a receipt fell out of it. It just got a $350 service (5 months before I bought it) that included changing all belts head cleaning demagnetizing and a general tuneup of the inner workings.
I love these old machines I like to watch the tape move and the VU meters are a treat to watch. I also listen to vinyl I like to watch it spin round and round like a record... I also like that song.

LED Free Zone!
All For HID, magnetic rapid-start Preheat & old-school electronic Only (no instant start F17T8 & F32T8 allowed)

Thank you! I think the belts are not discontinued, but only cheap Chinese ones are available.

OK that is what I thought the original manufacturer "PRB" if I recall correctly did discontinue their entire belt line that is why only Chinese ones are available today.
Do you have any other favorite cassette tapes?

Rush - A Show Of Hands is my other favorite. It has: Side 1: The Big Money, Subdivisions, Marathon, Turn The Page, Manhattan Project, Mission; Side 2: Distant Early Warning, Mystic Rhythms, Witch Hunt, The Rhythm Method, Force Ten, Time Stand Still, Red Sector A, and Closer To The Heart. Also, can you post a picture of the cassette deck you mentioned?

Very cool! I don’t know much about boomboxes specifically, but I’ve always been interested and somewhat knowledgeable about speakers.

I like all kinds of lighting and electrical, except for LED, which I classify as a disease.
- HID lamp and fixture collector
- Vintage incandescent lamp collector
Power Company: Southern California Edison
Proudly suffering from Westinghouse Lifeguard sickness since 2019.
Save the sodium lamps!

The only cassette decks still made (the cheap Tanashin ones) still use belts.

No i mean - Some equipment unrelated to AV whatsoever that uses small belts. Some types of equipment come to mind (printing, anything CNC, ...) but none of them seem to use the 1mm square section stuff, all use the wider geared belts. Maybe there is something else that uses them tho

Nice boombox, I don't have any myself but I do have a few cassette decks and a couple of walkmans.

I believe belts are still made in small quantities in Europe, I've ordered a few belts and other cassette deck parts like pinch rollers from Europe before.

I believe computer CD/DVD drives use those 1mm belts to operate the drive tray but optical drives on computers aren't really that common anymore. Most printing and CNC type equipment will use the GT-2 style timing belts instead.

I will probably be ordering a lot of belts soon. One for this, one for my grandparents' 8 track player, and 2 for my portable battery cassette deck.
