There are four of these in the basement, and another two 32w ones. It’s nice to see the mercury glow around the electrodes on lamps like this that have heavier usage.

The official meaning is that it conforms to EU regulations regarding construction etc.

Although some people take it to mean "Chinese Export" when on Chinese made stuff, as some unscrupulous manufacturers there have been known to fake the mark to get their stuff sold here.

Nice banding. Similar to a Circleville made circline.

Preheat and T-12 fluorescents forever! Down with LED's and instant start T-8 fluorescents.

It means it's certified for sale in the European Union. In order to be certified, it has to meet a certain quality standard.

That's what it's supposed to mean. However, as I said before, some cheap manufacturers in certain parts of the world fake this mark to get their items onto the market where they do not meet the relevant standards. Hence the common use of the term "Chinese Export". Often the mark is incorrectly printed with the letters closer together than they should be, although this isn't a foolproof guide to spotting the fakes.

Very true. The youtuber AvE uses it a lot talking about tools. That’s where I first heard it.
